John has served as General Counsel for River Rock since 2016. He has more than 20 years of experience in business, real estate, asset management and corporate law, including extensive experience in negotiating multimillion-dollar debt facilities and construction loans for financing of multi-subdivision projects and acquisitions of build-to-rent single-family residential properties.
He is responsible for advising River Rock in negotiating the structure and operations of equity partnerships of real property portfolios, overseeing River Rock affiliates acquisition and dispositions of build-to-rent subdivisions in aggregate amounts of over $100 million and management of outside counsel.
Prior to joining River Rock, John has worked as an associate with Alston Bird, LLP, Bryan Cave, LLP, and Troutman Pepper, LLP, representing national banks, finance companies, loan portfolio servicers and borrowers in Commercial Mortgage-Backed Secured transactions, Build to Rent refinances, acquisitions, and dispositions.
A native of Asheville, North Carolina, John earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina – Asheville and his Juris Doctor degree from Michigan State University College of Law, cum laude. During law school John spent a summer abroad at Trinity College in Dublin in Ireland studying under Justice Antonin Scalia.
